Our services

Talk Therapy

Talk therapy aka psychotherapy is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts, behaviors, actions, and your relationships with others in a safe and supportive environment. Our doctors are trained in various therapeutic modalities, including: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), internal family systems (IFS), group and couple’s therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. We are here to support you to better understand your weaknesses and uncover your strengths.

Coaching

We provide lifestyle, performance, and relationship coaching to optimize your quality of life.

  • Our habits directly impact our mental health. Healthy nutrition, movement, and sleep habits support optimal mood, cognition, and behaviors. We thus offer lifestyle coaching as part of our holistic approach to mental health. We can help identify small, achievable adjustments that over time lead to significant improvements in your overall health. Our goal is to collaborate with you in building and maintaining a lifestyle regimen that optimizes your mental and physical health.

  • We provide performance coaching to help you address doubts, fears, distractions and anxieties that prevent you from reaching your full potential. Whether you are an athlete, business executive, startup founder, competitive student, or professional seeking to reach the next level of performance, we will work with you to identify adjustments and cultivate practical skills to perform your best. Strengthening the mind will help you directly confront the negativities holding you back from a more confident, joyful, and productive version of yourself.  During performance coaching, we will help you evaluate your relationship skills, stuck thoughts and habits, and other barriers to optimize your professional success.

  • Dating is tough in our modern, digitized world. More than ever, we feel disconnected; finding and keeping a meaningful, authentic relationship with others may seem impossible. We will work with you to help you better your relationship with yourself and others, as well as help you identify thoughts and behaviors that may be helping or hindering your journey in seeking companionship. Dating can be a reflective process, offering a profound opportunity for growth and exploration of the psyche. We will provide support and a safe space for personal development during this journey.

Medication Management

Medications can be very helpful in a comprehensive treatment plan when used thoughtfully. If we think medications can help you, we will prescribe appropriate medications at the lowest-possible, efficacious dose with clear explanations to help you make an informed decision. Our doctors have extensive training in psychopharmacology and stay updated with the latest research on medications. If you need help with starting new medications, continuing medications, modifying your current regimen, we will collaborate with you to ensure your medications assist your mental health journey.

Collaborative Care and Second Opinions

Joie Mental Health offers consultation services for primary care providers and medical specialists, as well as for patients seeking a second opinion. Consultations are an opportunity to obtain expert guidance on diagnosis and management for psychiatric stability, as well as the connection between optimal mental and physical health. Our doctors have received extensive training in consult-liaison psychiatry and are committed to working with you to provide the highest level of expert guidance. All consultations start with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and may require additional follow-ups depending on case complexity and needs.

How do I get started?

  • If you want to proceed after reviewing this website, please click "Join Waitlist" and fill out the brief form. Our doctors will review this information to get an initial idea of your needs and if we can help you. If our doctors believe that we can potentially help, we will then schedule a complimentary 10 minute phone conversation with you to assess initial fit. During the phone call, we may recommend scheduling an initial evaluation.

  • Our work together will start with a comprehensive evaluation during the first visit, which will last 75 minutes. Prior to this appointment, we will ask you to fill out an intake packet which will make our time together more efficient. We typically spend 30+ min outside of the appointment reviewing your records and preparing for your care. During the evaluation, we will review and inquire in detail about your current symptoms, needs, past psychiatric and medical history, life experiences, and goals for treatment. At times we may request additional information, such as outside records from other members of your healthcare team, insight from people who know you well with your permission, and/or further lab/diagnostic testing.

The evaluation may need to be extended into 1-2 more appointments depending on complexity of your case, which would be billed as follow-up appointments. Please note that the first 1-3 total appointments are an opportunity for both you and your doctor to determine if this is the best working relationship to meet your needs, or if you would benefit from a referral to another specialist. We want you to receive the best help possible, and that might be with our practice or in another setting.  It may take more than the initial appointment in order to fully ascertain certain diagnoses and to formulate a treatment plan.

  • Our follow-up appointments help strengthen our partnership, obtain diagnostic clarity, and enable ongoing treatment planning. Follow-up appointments last 25 or 50 min depending on your needs and the treatment plan.

All patients receive supportive therapy during their appointments. For specific therapy modalities (e.g. , cognitive behavioral therapy; psychodynamic psychotherapy), we recommend weekly or twice-weekly follow-ups for the best progress. For certain medications, there may need to be weekly appointments in order to establish tolerability and efficacy. For medication-only (no specific psychotherapy modality), patients who are stabilized on medications, follow-up appointments typically occur every 1-3 months. Patients will need to see a provider at least once every 3 months in order for us to continue following your care.
